Bohemian Hostel

Competition for a Bohemian Hostel for Backpackers in the Gothic District of Barcelona

The building is a unique and multiple place: the entrance court following on from the square, the terraces at different levels overlooking the city, the enclosed meeting rooms looking out on the best views of Barcelona. Each part of the building is mechanically and electronically connected: panoramic stairways and lifts, freight lifts, television and video circuits that can show, in real time or on recordings, what is going on in this outstanding building in Barcelona. Altogether they form a POINT OF CONTACT FOR FASHION, CULTURE, NIGHTLIFE, BOHEMIANS and TOURISM.

The MACBA square extends into a plaza under the tower, shared with the city. Here there are palm trees and screens with information of both the hostel's and the city's events and services: the HIGH-RISE BUILDING DIGITALLY PERMEATES BARCELONA'S MEETING PLACES.

The free access areas (bar, shop, terrace for events) are situated on the lower floors of the building. The people staying at the hostel negotiate these areas using the panoramic stairways and lifts. The guest rooms, bathrooms and common rooms are situated on the higher floors, enjoying the privilege of the views. Rest, and private and contemplative enjoyment, are all separated from the busy atmosphere of to and fro in the city and in the building.
