Master Plan for the development of the City of Health and Innovation, designed to become, from the outset, an international hub for multidisciplinary research and innovation, with a focus on minimally invasive surgery.
The complex includes a research centre, a hospital and a university medical school, creating the so-called ‘Health Triangle’. This concept is expanded with the idea of adding various compatible and complementary activities to enhance the scope and significance of the Triangle and create a harmonious environment with a common purpose, optimising objectives and giving rise to a broader and more far-reaching and significant initiative: ‘The City of Health and Innovation’. The expanded uses include a tertiary complex, commercial premises, offices and coworking spaces, hospital residences, student residences, a cultural and exhibition centre, and a logistics park.
This greater scope changes the conceptualisation, perspective and scale of the project, as the City, as a tangible conceptual reality, will house the Triangle and not the other way around. An activity, however extraordinary it may be, does not conceptually generate a city, and this, or any urban area exceeding 2 or 3 hectares, is linked to urban planning and architecture.
Therefore, the excellence of the Health Triangle project is linked to and conditioned by the urban/architectural space that contains it being as special and optimal as the International Hub it will house.
The proposal is to create a large urban park, a hub for exchange, around which the buildings to be built will be arranged, thus differentiating the internal pedestrian circulations from the perimeter vehicular services.
